1 microwave-safe mug (preferably 10–12 oz size to avoid overflow)
Measuring spoons
A small whisk or fork
Microwave oven
Ingredients
2tablespoonsgranulated sugar
¼cup+ 1 ½ teaspoons all-purpose flour
3tablespoonsmilkany kind – dairy or non-dairy works
½teaspoonpure vanilla extract
¼teaspoonbaking powder
A small pinch of salt
2tablespoonsunsalted buttermelted
1teaspoonsprinklesoptional – for a funfetti twist
Instructions
Your clean, microwave-safe mug, add the sugar, flour, baking powder, and a dash of salt. Mix well with a fork to evenly distribute everything. This helps avoid any clumps later when the wet ingredients are added.
Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Then add the melted butter. Stir thoroughly until you have a smooth batter. Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the mug to incorporate all the dry ingredients.
If you’re making a funfetti-style mug cake, gently fold in the sprinkles. Be careful not to overmix or the color might bleed into the batter.
Place the mug in the center of the microwave and cook on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Start checking at 90 seconds the cake should rise and look set on top, not wet. Every microwave is slightly different, so you might need to adjust by a few seconds.
Let the mug cake cool for 1–2 minutes before eating. It will be hot! You can enjoy it straight from the mug or let it cool more and top with whipped cream, ice cream, or more sprinkles.
