Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pans

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease and flour two 9-inches round cake pans.

Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 3–4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 3: Mix the Dry and Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.

Step 4: Bake the Cake

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Step 5: Prepare the Chocolate Frosting

  • In a bowl, beat the butter until smooth. Add the cocoa powder and mix well. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, alternating with evaporated milk. Add the vanilla extract and beat until creamy and spreadable.

Step 6: Frost the Cake

  • Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of chocolate frosting on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides evenly. Slice and serve.

Notes: Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Allow the cake to cool fully before frosting to prevent melting. You can add a small splash of evaporated milk if the frosting is too thick.
