Paula Deen Gooey Butter Cake is a rich, indulgent dessert with a soft, chewy base and a creamy, sweet topping. Made with cake mix, butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar, it's simple to prepare and incredibly decadent. Baked until golden, this Southern favorite offers a melt-in-your-mouth texture that's perfect for special occasions or sweet cravings.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easier removal later.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix with 1 egg and 8 tablespoons (½ cup) of the melted butter. Mix well until it forms a thick dough. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish to form the crust.
In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining 2 eggs, the vanilla extract, and the remaining 8 tablespoons (½ cup) of melted butter. Beat until fully combined and creamy.
Gradually mix in the powdered sugar until smooth and well incorporated. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake crust in the baking dish. Spread it out evenly with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes. The edges should be set and golden, but the center will still look slightly gooey that’s exactly what you want. Let the cake cool completely before slicing into squares. Dust with extra powdered sugar on top, if desired.
