  • 1 package 18 1/4 oz yellow cake mix
  • 1 package 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 16 tablespoons 2 sticks butter, melted and divided
  • 1 box 16 oz powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven and prepare the pan:

  • Set your oven to 325°F (163°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick spray and set it aside.

Mix the batter:

  • In a large bowl, beat together the yellow cake mix, cream cheese, eggs, and 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of melted butter until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Pour and bake:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Prepare the glaze:

  • While the cake is baking, combine the powdered sugar, vanilla, and the remaining 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of melted butter in a bowl. Mix until smooth and glossy.

Glaze the cake:

  • As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, pour the glaze evenly over the hot cake so it seeps in. Let the cake cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

The glaze absorbs into the cake, giving it a rich, buttery sweetness. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle chopped pecans on top before the glaze sets. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
