Apple And Chocolate Cake Recipe

Sophia
The moist apple and chocolate cake recipe has a rich, tender texture that melts gently in the mouth. Sweet, juicy pieces of apple bring a natural freshness that balances the deep, mellow flavor of chocolate.
Lightly spongy and soft, the cake carries subtle hints of vanilla and spice, enhancing the natural sweetness of the fruit. Chocolate chips or chunks create small pockets of indulgence, contrasting the gentle softness of the batter.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (large and medium)
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Grater or knife for apples
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking pan (8×8 inch or 9-inch round)
  • Toothpick or skewer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 1/2 cup sugar or coconut sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples peeled, cored, and grated or chopped
  • 1/2 cup applesauce optional, for extra moisture
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan

  • Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F). While it heats up, get your baking pan ready. You can either grease it with butter or oil and dust it lightly with flour, or simply line it with parchment paper for easier cleanup.

Step 2: Prepare the Apples

  • Peel the apples, remove the cores, and then either grate or chop them into small pieces. Set them aside for later.

Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • Take a medium-sized bowl and add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and any optional spices you like. Whisk everything together so there are no lumps and the ingredients are evenly mixed.

Step 4: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract. If you’re using applesauce, add it here. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Step 5: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring gently as you go. Once combined, fold in the prepared apples and chocolate chips. Be careful not to over mix the batter should stay light and airy.

Step 6: Bake the Cake

  • Pour the batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35–40 minutes. To check if it’s done, insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean. Let the cake cool a little before slicing and serving.

Notes

Note: For extra flavor, you can sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top before baking or drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled cake. This apple and chocolate cake recipe keeps well for 2–3 days at room temperature and can be refrigerated for up to a week.
